David Phillips, the founder of Brand 316, a Christian Ministry dedicated to providing spiritual, professional, and personal training for the formerly incarcerated, spoke at the Christian Business League of Kansas. In his speech, he shared his personal journey and the mission of Brand 316.
David's upbringing in a family with strong ties to Christian organizations like World Impact and World Vision instilled in him a commitment to helping the needy. Despite his early exposure to Christianity, he initially challenged his faith. He achieved worldly success, working in the corporate world and then starting his own successful business, but faced challenges that forced him to reevaluate his relationship with God.
Surviving a stroke, seizures, and kidney disease, David continued to resist God's messages until his arrest on serious charges which he still maintains his innocence for. He faced the harsh realities of the criminal justice system, which prompted a spiritual awakening during his time in prison. He realized the power of Christ and how it can sustain in the darkest moments.
His experiences led to the creation of Brand 316, aiming to halt the cycle of incarceration through comprehensive training and support for the formerly incarcerated. The program includes training for inmates nearing release and a reintegration program for those released. The goal is to equip them with essential life skills, career training, and a strong foundation in faith. David reminds us all that we serve a God of Second Chances!
David appealed to Christian business leaders and pastors to join his cause, emphasizing that society often stigmatizes the formerly incarcerated. He shared alarming statistics about recidivism rates and societal biases against them. He urged them to support Brand 316's mission by sponsoring inmates, providing job opportunities, offering housing solutions, and raising awareness about the challenges these individuals face.
Drawing from his own transformation, David highlighted the power of Christ's forgiveness and the opportunity for growth even in dire circumstances. He called for action, encouraging listeners to make a positive impact on the lives of the formerly incarcerated, ultimately providing them with second chances and hope for a better future.
